MLB The Show Thread (before the big one)

It's the game I look forward to the most each year. I played the hell out of it last year and will certainly get it again.
Has there been a release date yet? Word on new things we will have in this game?

So far we know there will be a retro mode, vintage teams and stadiums, story mode in RTTS, new baseline cam, and MLB Network integration.

Finally, it appears the Road to the Show mode will have some sort of storyline. At the beginning of the trailer, you can see a created player in a role-playing sequence. We don't know how deep this aspect of the mode will go, but it's nice to see SDS moving in this direction.

Here's a nugget many people might have missed from the Retro Mode segment of the trailer. Griffey Jr. hits his home run off Goose Gossage of the New York Yankees. It wasn't a Diamond Dynasty team, it was the actual Yankees and the game was in old Yankee Stadium. This looks like a solid hint that implies at least two classic teams are included in the game. Baseball rosters are significantly larger than the NBA, so including entire classic teams seems like a huge undertaking.

Awesome. When do they usually start diving into the details about the game?

I think they start with all the details, videos, streams, etc at about a month out.

If there is story mode I might buy again. The RTTS has been exactly the same with better graphics for about 4 years. So tired of it

Its the reason I have a ps4 for.

I always start a RTTS, but usually don't get much into it.
Last year I traded a bunch of LSU players to the Astros. Played a franchise and would play 1 game per series. Made it through probably 4-5 seasons doing that. Gausman and Nola were beast.

i JUst dont understand how it has taken them so long to intergrate a story line

With such a great game, probably didn't feel it was necessary.
Look at last year's storyline in 2K, it ruined the entire mode.

but this year storyline is great. You dont have to have story line but make like one single cut scene in the game. You cant even make signing a contract cool. Even 4 years ago 2k had my gm where there was no cut scenes but it showed you discussing team oriented things and picking your answer
just a little something other than play game. play game. play game. simulate

The issue with a story in a sports game is it is hard to make it be our story. NBA 2k has failed with freq and pres because it wasn't our story. It was a very linear story that was us playing as freq and pres. I just want a little bit more feel of actually being a top prospect and MLB player. Just give me a few player interviews and some clubhouse discussion with my GM and manager and I'm good. Give the broadcast team some lines talking about what kind of career my player has had or will have.

this im completely fine with. Just a tiny bit of something to break up the repetitiveness

I'm not against the storyline mode. I don't mind it at all. Just couldn't get into the modes in 2K.
Maybe this will hold my attention more with the show, but I always end up wanting to play an entire game with a full team. The off-season moves, player development, etc is the stuff I enjoy.

Yeah 2K's story was the best when they let you pick how you wanted to respond on almost every situation and it impacted your team chemistry or the way the media viewed you. Even the one where you go undrafted and try out for teams was good. Now they force you to play some cheesy storyline with a ridiculous name.
I would love for The Show's story to have you try out and interview for teams. Or scouts to give you advice on whether they think you should go to college or not. And as your player evolves into a star for an organization his input becomes more involved in free agent signings or hiring/firing decisions. One thing I do like about 2K is how they let you play on college teams. Would be cool if The Show could do that but might be difficult to pull off.

What they need to bring back is the My Cribs think from the old 2K days. Allow us to spend money on stuff like cars, and shite to decorate our crib with. Make us pay for equipment out of our salary, etc. That shite would be amazing.

You are the one that brought all the info last year huh?

I'd really like SDS to offer an option for my RTTS player to roid up, or go get an 8-ball of blow amd party with chicks, rather than hit the batting cages an extra time.
Hell, at least offer an opportunity to drop acid and play. These are real life situations I want to have to make a decision about.
