LCD or Plasma for TV for gaming?

Im finally looking at upgrading to an HDTV because so much stuff is getting cutoff because I'm still running an SDTV. Ive heard plasma is the way to go because there is "TV lag" from LCDs. Does anyone here know if the difference in refresh rate between a plasma and LCD tv is that noticeable that its worth getting a plasma over an LCD tv?

The refresh rate and the colors are better on plasmas. Also, I've heard that plasmas are about as good as it gets for gaming.
eta: Just don't leave your screen on a static image for a long time the first 100 hours you use the tv. It probably wouldn't do anything, but it's best to err on the side of caution.

I like gaming on a LED myself. Brighter colors and better contrast. Just make sure you get something that has a 120hz or better refresh rate and you should be ok. Get a HDMI cord off monoprice.com for like 5 dollars.

Yeah, I've heard that if you keep a game paused on a static image for too long, it will permanently burn that image into your TV. This was the main reason I went LCD

It really hasn't been an issue with plasmas for a long time, but they still recommend you not leave it on a static image for the first 100 hours because it is technically possible. Quality plasma tvs are the best deal on the market right now.

That's like buying a 2003 car when the 2012 cars are out.
Get an LED and /thread

Do some research and you will realize that Plasma's are a better bang for your buck.

These people are confusing refresh rate with response time
Refresh rate is how many iterations the tv can do in a second
Response time is how long before an input is received and displayed (or something like that)
High response times result in input lag, 120 hz just makes more frames per second look smoother, but nothing to do with lag

Passive 3d uses the movie theater type glasses which are lightweight and cheap
The active 3d TVs use special expensive glasses that have to be charged
I'm not sure which is a better picture bc I have no experience with either, but I'd bet the actives look a little better but are less convenient

I haven't used a 1080p plasma, but i cant really see it being better than my LCD. The refresh rate and everything is better on the plasma, but the lighting just seems to be way better on the LCD.
but of course theres price
plasma 42"- on sale for $400
LCD 32"- $700

the high end plasmas are every bit as good as LED's, but they are just heavy, and usually create heat and use more power
also, they suffer from glare issues, but they are great for certain applications
i own an led

Check again.........LCD prices have really came down this year. You can get them under $400 all day long.

Personal preference. I have both a plasma and LCD TV and gaming looks great on both of them. If I had to choose though, I would go with an LCD.

Sounds like some great positives for owning an inferior product.

Exactly. I've played the same game on both versions and there is no denying the LED is the better picture. Glare being only one of many reasons.
Oh and congrats on not being poor
