I am a big fan of the original game and I decided to pre-order Sandstorm. I enjoyed playing the beta so far but there are some things that definitely need to be addressed before release. The major issues I've experienced so far are hit detection, extreme lag (bots skipping accross the map on CO-OP), and FPS (5 FPS when riding in on the trucks!).

FTR, the first one is free on Steam for at least another day, I believe.

I wonder if you snag it while its free if you still get the 5$ off when you buy Sandstorm. I know mine was 23$ but I'm not sure if that was just because I pre-ordered or because I owned Insurgency already (maybe both?).

I thought it was pretty fun. They need to optimize performance for sure. After messing with the settings some, I was able to get a pretty consistent 60 fps. I think having shadows on low made the most difference. It didn't make it look great, but it's better than a choppy experience. Player models and their animations could use some work.

I agree that hit detection seemed wonky at times. I especially had issues sometimes hitting prone targets, even when I was basically point blank. I'm not sure if any other game has done this before, but apparently they're using hitscan for close quarters shooting, and the ballistics model kicks in for longer range fights.

I didn't come across bots skipping across the map, but server performance didn't seem great overall. Most people were at least 100 ping, lowest I probably ever saw was 80. Four or five times through the beta, there were points where everyone's ping shot up to 1,200 for about 20 seconds then it normalized.

Both, they give 10% for preordering before release and another 10% for owning the original.

Okay, maybe it's just me... but the game looks visually terrible. If you watch the gameplay trailer the graphics are on a whole different level. I put everything on highest settings and it looked like a game out of 2005. The old insurgency was infinitely better looking. So not sure what's going on with that.

Also the frames are terrible, especially when scoping. I assume all this will be optimized on official release.

Looking forward to it though. The beta is too boring and not quite immersive enough for me at the moment. I will absolutely come back to it on launch. Insurgency is some intense shite

You are correct about the visuals but I guess I just trust these developers to sort it out.

I think I'll pick it up if it still has a following in November around Thanksgiving
