I'm late to the party, but Metroid: Dread is everything I want from Metroid

This is a must play game for Switch owners. Really getting some Super Metroid vibes, so 10yr old me is pretty happy!

Son and I started it last week, it’s incredible.

The crazy thing is, Dread has by far the most non-glitchable sequence breaks in the series, even moreso than Super Metroid. I am still not sure which between Dread or Zero Mission is my favorite Metroid, but Nintendo nailed Dread. Hopefully Metroid Prime 4 follows suit.

It’s a great game. The game play mechanics are diverse and intuitive.

I tried the demo and it just really didn't grab me. I will probably revisit at some point.

I really wanted to like the game, but I really HATED that it seemed like over half of the levels are locked into this fast paced "escape the invincible robot" sections where if you make one mistake or slip up you die.

Exploring, looking for secrets and enjoying the platforming is what I loved about old school Metroid games, not having to run at max speed and avoiding instant death enemies.

Yea, I hate parts of games that have this mechanic. Like RE2 and 3.

I think this is what turned me off the most as well.

Do you not remember trying to get back to the ship in Super Metroid?

I get you, but didn't mind it, simply because it is well made, feels good to play and gives me what I want from Metroid.

I would limit the goofy cutscenes though. I hate cutscenes.

The reward for killing the robot in each section is sweet exploration freedom.

Dark Souls comes for Samus. It kept me from completing the demo, that's for sure.

Did you play Metroid Fusion? The SA-X that followed you in that game was much worse than the EMMIs. But yeah, the EMMIs definitely give off a Mr. X vibe.
