In the first hour it's painfully evident how ME4 failed me, no real character development and tedious gameplay.

I still look back fondly about going up against Marauder Shields.

I feel bad for you.

None of the games aged well at all.

You lucky SOB. My graphics card updated and I can't get ME 2 to work at all now. What I wouldn't give for a ME 2 and... everything but the last 15 minutes of ME 3 replay.

What a load of shite. I didn't even play them until 2015 and all 3 were great.

I just beat ME1, just started 2. 2 is starting off much slower to me than 1 did. Is it worth my time to keep going through the trilogy?

Yep the gameplay was great, they fell short in some areas but it doesn't stop the game from being fun as shite along the way, sorry for partying.

3 was a fantastic game for 99% of the time. The free DLC ending isn't terrible, either. MUCH better than what they released.

The hate of 3 is plain stupid. Especially now that we see what a real bad ME game looks like. Or should I say a real bland ME game.

ME3 had the best combat and a great story all up to the last 2 minutes of the game. Sorry, I'm not going to hate a game because of the last 2 minutes. And I didn't mind the last 2 minutes because I didn't play until 2015 so I had the extended ending and I didn't have to mess too much with the online crap to get the best ending.

I guess you could say it's good for mindless fun. The side quests were good in a vacuum. Visually the game was good. But can you completely extract the story from a game that is so driven by the story? It wasn't just the last 2 minutes that were bad. It was the fact that everything that you were doing and everything that was happening made no fricking sense the whole game. The reason you kept playing was that you had 100% faith in bioware to somehow pull this all together in the end because of their stellar track record up to that point.

People bitch because 3 funneled all the choices from 2 into essentially the same ending, while I understand that, I don't think it's nearly enough to overshadow how amazing 3 was to play through.

And if you think it's mindless, crank the difficulty all the way up and play something other than a soldier. Combat REALLY takes off if you allow yourself more options than just switching the kind of rounds you're using.

The problem with 3 was the removal of all choices.

You saved the Rachni queen in ME1? That's cool. We tease that in ME2 and then completely negate your choice in ME3.

You killed the queen? Don't worry. There was another one that we hid behind the curtain for ME3.

And that was just one of many.

The story is flawed to an epic degree and the ending was rushed because, for what I believe to be the case, so many people quit after EA got overly involved. That included writers who were integral to the story.

The saddest thing about all of this is how it impacted opinion of future games set in that universe.

I'll be honest, I completely forgot about that. Holy hell.

Let's be real, 4 is arse enough on its own.

It is one of many. The biggest issue is that the majority of choices you make in the previous games has absolutely no impact outside of "war assets".

ME2 actually tried in most instances. ME3 could have been standalone and it wouldn't have mattered.

Sure, but if they would have ended it somewhat properly, the support would have been there and they wouldn't have dumped it on the laps of the "C" group.

Now Mass Effect has fallen even lower. Haven't they decided to table the universe?
