I posted this on the tech board but I saw where Nintendo is suing a big game emulator so I want to get all the nes snes and sega libraries. I don’t know anything about retropie and wanted to know how many years will it last before it goes out on me?

Probably around as long as a typical computer or other small electronic device. Anywhere from 3 to 10 years i guess

quote:Your question is confusing to me. Retropie is an open source Linux distribution for the Raspberry Pi line of hardware. There is no one to sue. There is no company to extract unearned funds from.

If you are talking about Nintendo trying to shut down some popular rom sites, then yes. They are attempting to do that. But you simply need to make a backup of any roms you download. I use Carbonite for that so if any of my hard drives die, I can just re-download their contents.
If you load your roms onto an SD card for use in a Raspberry Pi, you can simply restore them from your backup if any of the hardware dies. You can even take an image of the entire Raspberry Pi installation, including your roms, allowing you to re-image a new SD card and essentially clone the exact setup of your Raspberry Pi in the event of a hardware failure. I've done this several times to quickly setup Raspberry Pi's for friends.
There are loads of guides and Youtube videos walking through all of the above if you search for it. So, a hardware failure of a Raspberry Pi should be a minor bump in the road if you take the proper precautions.
(Also, I don't believe Nintendo will ever be successful in eradicating roms. The library of Nintendo roms I have didn't even come from popular rom sites.)
