How do you fix the drift in the Nintendo Switch Joy Cons?

I’ve had a switch for about a week now and the drift from the left analog stick is making gameplay unbearable. I tried calibrating it in the settings but that hasn’t really done anything. Wondering if there’s a simple fix before I take it apart or send off for a new one

You can try some WD-40 Electrical Contact Cleaner Spray.

IGN article on it
There are some DIY fixes you can try, or you can send it in to Nintendo. They acknowledge the issue last July but apparently haven't figured out how to fix it with their newer units.

I saw a YouTube video that said the exact same thing. I have one drifting I need to try it with.

You can try these fixes but it may not help. It didn’t help me.
Taking apart and replacing the stick is easy though. Part on eBay, screwdriver on amazon, YouTube, and I knocked it out in about 30 mins max.

I did the alcohol and Q tip method and it worked really good. It still drifts a little bit sometimes but not to the point where the game is unplayable and my character is constantly jumping off cliffs and shite

Crazy I never had an issue with all 4 of our joycons.

This. Also make sure you rotate the joystick afterwards so the liquid can touch all of it. Worked for me.

How can I test drift, in the controller suite?

I did this with a pro controller. Works way better but it's jittery. I'm gonna take it back apart and make sure everything is seated properly

What is this drift? My sons R button on the right joy con stopped working last night.

It's with the left (typically) joystick moving or drifting on its own without you moving it

Went inside a GameStop yesterday to buy another Left Joycon for Mario Party.
They only had used ones, which was odd because they shutdown/closed shop before the covid shutdown rush for Switchs.
For anyone who doesn't know, GameStop sells the strap/trigger slider separate for $3.99. FYI, they come with any Joycon purchase basically free. So to get the free other part of a used Joycon from GameStop you have to pay extra.
Fckk GameStop tactics, there is a reason why ppl hate the company.

For the new Switch owners with kids and multiple joycons, the charging dock is a must for the home. You can only charge the joycons while on the Switch. This is dumb if you have multiple joycons for games like Mario Party
