Help. Trying to get my kid into Guitar Hero

Simple question. Are there versions of the game more tailored to younger kids
I bought the setup for my 10yr old with the guitar for like $280 that came with a guitar hero live game. I want him to stay interested and learn some songs that are less metal-ish. He typically listens to country or pop type music. I was just wondering if there were versions that were a little more focused on younger kids. TIA

Learn songs? It's a game.

I'll try to answer, but most Guitar Hero games, from back when, were similar in nature. I don't think there are country music "geared" GH games, to my knowledge.
Oh, and obligatory SouthPark Gif

Maybe OP is thinking of Rocksmith? Either way, guitar lessons are better taught by a real person.
There's no way in hell that GH is gonna do anything.

should've gotten him Rock Band 4.
their DLC store is still up with 100s of songs. but they will soon be phasing them out.

you won't find much within the PlayStation Store, but if you purchase the game for only $9.99, you can access their in-game store and find all kinds of rock, pop, r&b, country, etc. songs. they'll sell them individually, usually $1.99 per song, or they'll have genre bundles or band bundles as well. depending on who/what it is, they'll range from $9.99 to $29.99.
when i get home, i'll snag some screenshots of their offering list.
also, depending on the Guitar Hero controller/guitar, it should work with Rock Band as well. if you want to use a Rock Band specific guitar, you can use the PS2/3/4 guitars all on PS4 and PS5. same with the drums.

forgot about this one. this is the only one that "teaches" how to play guitar.
the others were just for drunk weekends with friends.

I might be wrong, but when OP said "learn songs", I didn't take that as learn how to play them on guitar. Because no PS game will do that. I took it as learn, as be exposed to that song/music. But i've been known to be wrong a time or two.

there is a PS4 version of Rock Smith. it should come with a cord to use with a real guitar. the game is actually smart enough to recognize different chords.
Rock Band/Guitar Hero is another animal though.
Here's the Rock Band Store setlist:

It does not teach you how to play guitar. You need to know how to play guitar if you want to play Rocksmith, or you will be extremely disappointed. The "tutorial" missions that walk you through how the game works are not enough for you to actually learn.
They really do need to release a version that does this. Huge missed opportunity imo. I think them not releasing a version that teaches guitar is a large reason why Rocksmith hasn't taken off like it should have.
Source: Me, guitar player who owns and has actually used Rocksmith.

I still can't hear "Barracuda" without all of the supplemental clicks of the guitar controller.

Same.
My kids have been exposed to some songs through school performances, Just Dance, etc, and will wonder why they recognize some stuff in my playlist as a result.
GH / Rock Band tends to be a lot of better quality stuff compared to much of what ends up in Just Dance, though.

I can’t hear “Lump” without hearing the message “your drummer will hate you” due to an optional Rock Band challenge being they will offer you certain songs not on the original set list for the venue in exchange for some bonus.
IIRC, you also got the option to play a Paramore song for a cash bonus but you lost fans for selling out because it was a Hot Topic endorsement.

Sorry lol Guess I should’ve expounded a bit
Im basically just trying to get him interested in music in general. And at least try and develop at least a small idea what it’s like to use an instrument. His mom and I have been back and forth for a good while about what type of instrument we want him to take lessons for. She wants piano, I want guitar
Anyway, I figured if I could find one that leaned more toward a lighter rock/pop that maybe he’d get more interested

i'd hop on facebook marketplace and find some Rock Band peripherals.
Fender Strat Guitar controller
Drums
Microphone
Rock Band 3 actually came out with a keyboard controller and a few songs, but you have to have Rock Band 3 for either Xbox 360 or PS3 and the corresponding console. keyboard support did not carry over to last/current gen.

Lego Rock Band was marketed with a very family friendly setlist. The heaviest song on there is probably Final Countdown. Plays exactly like the mainline RB games.

Have you asked on what he wants to play, or is it your own thing? The young baw might wanna play the tuba or some shite.

You do know that the guitar hero live servers have been shut down for a long time and those guitars are not compatible with any other guitar game?
