Nintendo was created in 1889.

Their early business was playing cards, mafia, and managing brothels.

Haven't fact checked the mafia and brothels thing there, but the first checks out.

I had no idea the company was that old.

Edit
Hmmm, seems true. That's sort of cool and weird.

There's a really cool doc series on Crackle called "playing with power" on Nintendo that really dives into their early history. Definitely recommend if this interests you.

Nintendo's history is pretty cool

P.S: I completely forgot about the reason they were created... freakin' Western Civilization Evangelicals and governing morals go together like young moms and pyramid schemes

Doesn't surprise me about the Yakuza. The show on netflix called "High Score" might talk about the playing cards but not sure...either way it's a great watch. Think it was 5 episodes.
