I have a 2 year old powerspec from Microcenter that came with a 4080 and 13900k. The cpu went bad about a month ago and was replaced with a brand new 14900k under the replacement plan I bought.

I am now aware that my new cpu is possibly subject to the same issues as the one before, and was thinking I might try to sell the pc and upgrade while it still has some value.

How would/did you go about selling it? I've never sold anything on ebay and I know I wouldn't make a purchase like this from someone other than a reputable seller.

Do I just keep the system and ride it for another year or 2 for the next series? I'm trying hard not to justify upgrading to a 5090 but it seems like trying to get some value now to put towards a new rig just makes sense.

ETA 14900K was free under replacement plan, I didn't just recently put more money into the machine

Get a 13700k/14700k and put it in with a watercooler if you don't already have one. Sell the 14900k on craigslist or marketplace and get your money back.

I haven't run across any 13 or 14 gen I7's actually having any issue. I have with the I9. Update your mobo bios if it hasn't been done.

You could run that 4080 and a 13700k for many many years.

That's unless you just have to scratch that itch and have money to burn.

I've sold parts and part combos (CPU/Mobo/RAM) but not more than that on eBay. The primary reason is that I used to work in a major PC manufacturers corporate support. The secondary reason is how much it costs to ship a full box.

I spent way too many hours troubleshooting connectors that had come loose on the phone causing a no POST/no Boot, there's no fing way I'd do it on eBay, and if you've read the questions some buyers put on listings, you'd understand why I'm skeptical. Also so many scams where I've read that the buyer blames a faulty PC, returns it, and replaces parts with cheaper components, etc.
