Halo 2 - No more online?

Someone mentioned in stouts thread that Halo 2 can not be played online anymore. Has this been confirmed? I'm on vacation and not able to check for myself.

There is no more Halo 2 online. You got to give props to the guys who stayed logged in for almost a month afterwards to keep it alive though.

Wait...people just left their xboxs signed into the Halo2 server? I suppose they should be given their props, but Bungie couldn't just pull the plug? Wouldn't that have booted them out of the servers?

Correct, no more Halo 2. They shut down the servers.

I guess shutting down the servers wouldn't allow anyone to sign in, but apparently if you were already logged in you could stay.

They should have scrapped Halo 3 and upgraded Halo 2 with its multiplayer features.

I know Halo 1 is a nostalgia classic, but the weapons were overpowered and some of the maps were just absolutely atrociously designed.

If you have a crazy urge to play it you can download XBConnect, which is free and can play a number of older xbox games including halo 1 and 2, also 360 and psp games. Only downside is not that many people play any more on there since XBL and also you have to use a hub/router to connect internet/pc/xbox. I play it from time to time when I need the old school halo fix.
