Rockstar has never been known to go the PC route NOR the "woke for wokeness sake" route. Maybe they just wanted to change things up a bit? Did folks complain that one of the protagonists was black when we got our first one (I legit have no idea)?
If it's well written with good gameplay, who gives a rat's arse if the protagonist has something swinging between their legs or not?

Does this mean my daughter can play GTA now? Will she feel like it talks to her because there is a female lead?
If there is one thing we know, women are huge target audience for stealing cars, robbing banks, shooting random people, banging hooker, taking hitchhikers to crazies for human sacrifice and alien shite.
Of course as a Tomb Raider lover, I welcome a female badass with a nice arse.

Do YOU feel like GTA talks to you? Because if you do... get help.
GTA is a story with a lot of batshit crazy the player can do.
I'm just saying I don't care if the protagonist is male or female so long as the story and the gameplay is fun. My point is that Rockstar isn't like some other companies, making characters specifically to pander - if they want a female protagonist, it's likely because they just wanted to try something a bit different.
Besides, you never know. You could end up playing someone like this.

It will be released at the end of the PS5 lifecycle and span 3 more generations of consoles.

I remember the complaints when it was announced the main character in San Andreas was black. That the character didn't fit the same race as the GTA player base. And San Andreas actually turned out to be one of the most interesting storylines out of all the GTAs because it was a different experience than we were used to.
Same with GTA 6. My initial reaction to a female character was meh... until I realized that Rockstar is going to give us a point of view that we've never experienced, and it'll be wildly entertaining.

I just have zero interest in the GTA experience solely through the eyes (so to speak) of a female character. If she’s one of multiple protagonists and has a purpose and good story, I’ll be fine with it. Game developers are bending over backward to appeased the casual 10% of gamers who are female but ignore that at least half of those women don’t give a shite about playing as a woman.
They are chasing the approval of the vocal extreme minority of gamers on Twitter and the SJW brownie points patrol. GTA has always been about escapism. It’s doing all of the insane shite you see in unrealistic action movies in your own home. It’s Bad Boys, it’s Fast and the Furious, it’s the Italian job, it’s James Bond, Jason Bourne, kingsman, so on and such.
I don’t care about real/perceived struggles of women in our world in a game. That’s not why anyone puts hundreds of hours into GTA. If they are going to do a female protagonist, I don’t want some bullshite arse Rey/Captain Marvel/Dany Targaryen. I want a Gal Gadot/Ellen Ripley/Gamora type badass. Hopefully RockStar realizes this and doesn’t torpedo their brand because of some genderqueers fruit loops on Twitter might throw a like their way.
