I was on Sylph server on FFXI for about 3 or 4 years. I used to love playing that game for the most part, but the things that frustrated me were how much time you had to spend on it to get anything done. Partying up to go grind felt like it would take hours to get everyone together, then you would spend 30 minutes traveling to a spot only to get out there and somebody would disconnect or something would go wrong.

Also, I used to hate that if somebody in your LS wanted some summoner robe, the monster would only spawn once in a 24 hour period and you had to fight 3 or 4 other groups of people to get the thing.

When I read XIV was supposed to be more casual-player friendly I was pretty happy, but then the launch reviews were awful. Is the game still designed that way or have the improvements changed it to be more of a commitment?

I'm also a console gamer and I have a mac so I don't think I'll be getting the game at least until the ps3 launch. But I am still kinda looking forward to it and this thread has gotten my hopes up a bit.

The game that nearly destoryed Square Enix. I'm surprised they are still trying to salvage it.

Well, at least 2.0 will come out in time for the two-years-late PS3 release. They may as well just cancel their plans for the PS3 unless they want to make it downloadable from the Playstation Store.

I don't know how the "end game" stuff will work, but then again nobody does because the level is only maxed at 50 right now. But I can tell you one thing.. it's a whole heck of a lot more "solo" or duo or trio friendly than XI was.

Also, guys, it's really not that bad of a game anymore.. I guess I'm glad I never got jadded like you guys over the last year, I'm just now joining.

Man, SE should have done the same thing they did with XI, waited til the first big change to release it in the US.. the game before Rise of the Zilart was horrible FWIW.

XI was on the ps2 and the xbox 360.. it's not out of the realm of possibility, also, it will be on the ps3 for much longer before the next generation than it was on the ps2 before the next generation.

ETA: I'm happy that most of you guys are playing ToR. I was hoping that ToR was going to give me my MMO fix that I have been looking for since quiting XI.. it didn't, so I have turned my focus toward XIV.. it really is starting to fulfill that roll I was looking for.
