Son into Smash Bros... one of the settings is Duck Hunt background. Brings back some memories - but mostly from a tech standpoint, how did that game work allowing you to point and shoot at ducks? What’s the 1980’s tech that made that function possible?

When you pulled the trigger, the ducks flashed a momentary white block. The camera in your gun looked for white light. If it didn't see it, you missed.

Heres a quick video. I found one a few weeks back on why it doesn't work on new screens because of the way the tv refreshes the picture.
