Both consoles give you the ability to stream pretty flawlessly, but with PCs and OBS, professionally designed overlays seem to be the "thing to have" when it comes to building your channel. Your content is always #1, but the production value seems to be what holds your viewer base.

You guys think the newer generation consoles will support an overlay/OBS system?

Probably, since Microsoft seems to be going all in on streamin, Google just unveiled a huge streaming platform, and PS5 is being touted as the last traditional console.

Not true. Shroud is the most unlikeable motherfricker on the planet but he has shite tons of viewers.

Checks out.

Part of being Shroud is being really good at video games. He doesn't have flashy production.

What finch is talking about is having Dr. Disrespect level production to maintain viewers. While it may "help"..... if the person behind the camera or playing the game doesnt offer a reason to stay..people wont.

in a way i am, but alot of the people i've come across on twitch are average players at best. and they have a steady 1-2k viewers on average. doc has even acknowledged that people are gravitating away from green screens and using neon lights in their bedrooms that shine onto their red bull and monster energy drink refrigerators.

everybody has a frame around their webcam and shows information on top donations, recent subs, total subs, total bits, etc. i'm beginning to think viewers really care about.

but no body watches doc for his game play. they come to see the character. his production is part of his character. his channel is a different kind of channel all together.

eta: a majority of the streamers on twitch are going to be millenials. these people, like myself, grew up being stimulated by flashy lights and screens while playing video games. if you don't have that, their attention span won't last long on your channel. from what i've noticed, while playing fortnite, blackout, apex, etc., i can't keep someone interested because they only stay for maybe 2 minutes tops. that's not enough time to determine if i'm good, great or suck at the game. they can jump in my game for 10-15 seconds and i die immediately. they leave. just because i died doesn't mean i suck. they'd just rather jump to the next channel because they don't want to read the load screen. at least with overlays, professionaly done overlays, it gives them something to look at or possibly even read.

this is all a theory though.

For bigger channels sure. They want thousands of people to see their name. Starting off....meh not so much.

I think its just best to keep it simple starting off. Obviously you want the stream to look good but also clean. Invest in a good webcam...good lighting...a good mic. Then focus on you....should always be talking..never stop. Have a reason for someone to respond.

Those obs "follow/donos" wont serve any purpose if no one stays.

Also there are tons of successful PS4 streamers...who do nothing but just load up the PS4 and start streaming.
