So, I'm looking to have a custom PC built for a family member for Christmas. Just wondering if any of you have any experience with how long it will take to build it and get it to me. I've heard horror stories but I think that was mostly back during COVID and such with shortages.

You’re buying a prebuilt online? You’d be better off buying all the parts yourself and just paying a local PC repair shop to assemble it locally.

I guess I should have clarified. I'm not really that dialed in when it comes to computer tech. I had someone sit down with me and build/configure one that will be a customized prebuilt. I was just wondering if anyone who has done this has experience with how long it may take to get it after you place your order.(I know there are a lot of variables and it's kind of impossible to answer) but thought I would ask anyway.

So this is someone local you have met and talked to and not some company out of state?

If it’s local, once all the parts are in, it should only take a few days typically to complete a build… if the person is experienced and is focusing on your build specifically they could easily complete it same day.

If you give the dudes on here a budget and a FPS/game goal in general, they can part you out a computer way better than any prebuilt. Just gotta find someone you can throw 1-200 bucks at to build it if you're not willing.

Prebuilts are notorious for skimping on essential parts like mobo, ram, and psu

I build computers for my work and to flip on the side. Parts come in 2-3 days from Amazon and it takes me 20-30 minutes to build it. It is not complicated and repetitive no matter the components.

To echo everyone else, custom home built is always better. With that said, that's not what you asked, so:

The closer you get to Christmas, the longer the lead time is going to get. As an example, NZXT currently has a build time of five business days, plus shipping. Once you hit December, you'll start seeing sites putting up order deadlines for Christmas.
