Could a halo-universe game that took place during forerunner-flood war be successful?

I’ve always thought that a good launching point to “revive” the halo franchise (although infinite did a good job) would be to go back hundreds of thousands of years and have a game where you play as the forerunners battling the flood.

That storyline is already very interesting if you read the books and do the terminals in the games.

Curious what this board thinks. Would you personally buy a game like that?

I'd buy it because I'm a huge halo fan (except for that fricking awful show which I refuse to watch.)

It would have the same problem as Halo 5 though. While still somewhat cool because of the Halo universe, it's just not the same as playing as Chief

Plus, there's a feeling/tone the Covenant and Banished give to the games. Maybe it's the colors like the purple, red, green, and blue. The Forerunners just seem bland comparatively.

If 343 makes it, it’ll suck

Franchise is dead until they give it to another studio

While I enjoyed Halo Infinite for a bit, it just feels like a half finished game. 343 has done nothing to make me think I will ever jump hardcore into Halo again.

Maybe, but those books with the Didact and the Librarian were boring AF. Could be a Greg Bear problem, though.

Well, we could at least have the Prophets, as they were in an alliance with Humans at the time of the Human-Forerunner War.

I think a game set in this time could be fun. If played from the POV of the Forerunners, you'd have Humans-Prophets destroying one of your worlds in a perceived act of aggression. The game could then have a reveal similar to Halo: CE where you encounter the Flood for the first time and realize WHY the Humans wiped out one of your planets - they were trying to contain the Flood.
