Are Eneloops the definitive battery for gaming? I’ve eaten through normal batteries and play and change kits. All seem to suck.
Are Eneloop rechargeables the direction to go in? Is there a version better than the rest?

Eneloops are definitely the way to go. The regular ones have less capacity than the Pros, but more charge cycles, so I personally go for the regular ones.
FWIW, people say the Amazon Basics rechargeable batteries are just reskinned Eneloops, so if price is a concern, you can try going that route.

I've been using Amazon Basic rechargeable. I get a good bit of life out of them
