Also, is there any way to get the specialty heroes aside from buying shite during events or getting lucky when buying heroes with gems? Can I win them in battle, like as a rare drop or something? Would love a Vlad.

I would love a Vlad, too. But no, heroes don't drop from battles. All you can do is just cross your fingers every time you roll gems. Also, be sure to check your warehouse every day and buy talent refresh cards every time you see them. And do your quest board twice a day. Then, when you get the talent refresh quest, you can use a card and then get the 300 gem reward. Also make sure to get your daily rewards for doing arena fights and for raiding gold/mana.

I haven't bought gems in a long time, but from all the free gems I end up rolling 10-15 times per week. It will take a while, but you will get some nice heroes eventually.

Where does the currency used there come from?

Those are merits, and you get them from doing expeditions (found in arena building) and from doing team dungeons (storm mesa).

How do you manage this?

How do you manage this?

I get 5+5+10+10=30 per day from the gift box (for stealing resources, doing arena, and just logging in), plus (20/50/100) let's call it 35 per day from the daily reward. I also get 40 per day based on my might, so I'm at 105 gems per day (735 per week) before I even get to the quests. The quest board varies, but I think I usually get about two 25 gem quests per full board, and if I do 2 boards per day that's another 100 gems per day (700/week). The talent refresh quests are pretty rare, but I usually get probably 1-2 per week, and at 300 gems each (since I always use refresh cards) that's 300-600 more gems per week. That gives me about 735+700+300 = 1735 gems every week, which at 150 each is 11-12 hero rolls (plus 2 more if I get another talent refresh quest).

Edit: It might just be one 25 gem quest on each board, so knock 2 rolls per week off my estimates for that, but I didn't count the gems I get from hero trials or the random gems IGG hands out for maintenance or whatever, so it's still somewhere in the 10-15 range every week. Maybe I'll start keeping records of my rolls.

That makes sense, in my head for some reason I had you doing 15 of the 450 gem rolls.

The fact that gem rolls are random keeps the game in balance in my opinion. If it were just pay for a PD you would have a game where only those that spent money would be at the top, like clash of clans. This method seems to provide more balance, if only a little.

With the new heroes PD has become less important as well. Yes you need him for bosses and mesas, but I dropped him from my HBM line up until I got to O. Also, with all the debuffing heroes, I see lots of arena teams doing well without him.

Serious question- Is there any elite dungeon worth farming more than the ordinary dungeons? I still just farm the ordinary 40 shard dungeon because it is so much less effort.

Ah yeah, I've just been doing 1 at a time and have been having great luck. I just rolled Snowzilla this morning, and I rolled Santa and Aries just in the last couple weeks. So now I'm only missing Vlad, Cupid, Ork, and Mino.

And I checked it out, sometimes I get two quests for 25 gems, and sometimes I only get one.

I don't think so, but of course I've only finished the first 3 sets of elite dungeons. The payouts so far are not nearly worth the effort, considering I have to use so much magic and still lose heroes sometimes.

I hardly ever get a shard drop in the expert dungeons

I just started dungeon 6 and it still does not give 40 shards and often wipes out my team. It also requires me to be much more active when I am playing, which I don't like. Part of the reason I have advanced as far as I have is that I can just grind away without any effort. Setting down my heroes and letting them go to work, coming back later.

yeah, the new dungeons are pretty much crap, so many bombs and towers you almost need all flying heroes and the reward to effort ratio is terrible

I get more shards from the quests than I do from dungeons.

Speaking of which... am I to take it that the Elites you can buy with shards aren't as good as the ones you can get lucky with by using gems to roll on heroes?

There are 3 "grades" of heroes: Ordinary, Elite, and Legend. I would probably put a 4th grade on there for the non-shardable Legend heroes, which even though they are still called Legend, their stats and skills put them a little higher than the Legends that you can buy with shards.

So rolling for heroes with gems (never roll with honor badges, btw, you never get Legend heroes and HB are more useful for upgrading) can get you any type of hero, so you just have to get lucky to get one of the ones that you can't buy with shards.

The legendaries you can get with shards are pretty legit, there's some gem roll only heroes that have no shard equivalent but the ones you can buy will go a lon way. I use only one gem hero (Cupid) the rest of mine I got with shards, and I think I do damn good with them. That's not to say I wouldn't love a pumpkin Duke.

I lucked up and got a Snowzilla and Atlanticore on back-to-back rolls a month or so ago. I haven't been willing to try pushing my luck since then

My current lineup is:
Thunder God
Druid
Atlanticore
Snowzilla
Paladin

I know the Paladin is weak sauce and am saving my shards up but not sure which to buy once I get the shards: Grizzly Reaper or Immortep. Thoughts?

Also, what determines the levels on the Lost Realm enemies? Is it the inscription level? Highest hero level? Amount of territory opened? Might?

Immortep is awesome he kills it in raids and HBM. I love my paladin, in my opinion he's much better tank than atlanticore.

That is a solid line up. If you are high enough level you should be able to rock some serious dungeons and get shards with those.

I think the Paladin is under valued. He can take a beating. Snowzilla is better at HBM than a PD and better than GR or Imortep for bosses. I have been using my Atlanticore a lot for the lost realm battles and is also great for arena when he has revitalize.

You can go far with the group you have.

GR vs immortep is a debate you will find online a bunch. Immortep is better for HBM and arena, GR is better for raids and bosses. For whatever reason, I prefer my GR.

All the good base set ups are designed for high dps heroes. AC and Pal are too slow.

Unrelated, I did not ask in one of the MMO threads you posted in a long time ago (related to EQ). Did you go by the same name on the Rallos Zek server?

Was Rallos one of the PVP servers? My main was on Rathe but I had alts on Quellious and one or two others where our guild (New OutRiders) had branches.
