I really don't get that complaint. The durability thing was never an issue for me. I didn't like the mechanic because I wanted to keep certain weapons for as long as possible, but I also never felt like I didn't have a weapon available to use.
ETA: To the OP: I love BOTW, but I've never owned a PS4 so no idea about Horizon Zero Dawn. Would totally recommend BOTW though. Great game. Perfect entry in the Zelda series.
