Are We Just Going to Pretend the Official Teaser for Resident Evil 9 Didn't Just Drop?

It's official: Resident Evil 9 is coming, and we just got our first real look at it during Summer Game Fest 2025.
Resident Evil Requiem is a single-player survival horror game due out February 27, 2026 across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S.
On-stage at SGF, host Geoff Keighley said Resident Evil Requiem marks a "bold shift for the franchise both in tone and gameplay." Expect "high-stakes cinematic action" on top of survival horror.

The trailer appears to confirm a destroyed Raccoon City, which was nuked at the end of Resident Evil 3, with city shots that perhaps suggest open-world game design. We may have a brand new playable character on our hands in the form of FBI technical analyst Grace Ashcroft, who is investigating a series of strange deaths. She's ordered to return to the scene of her mother's murder, and in doing so must face her past.
We then see Grace strapped to a gurney and hear a mysterious figure say "I know now that you're the one that I've been searching for... special one. Chosen one." Is he talking about Grace?
Capcom's official website doesn't have much to add, but does point to "technological advancements" and "a story with rich characters and gameplay that's more immersive than ever before."

So, a RE2/3/Outbreak hybrid? Darn. I was hoping for more of a push down the RE7 path. The "cinematic" part sounds threateningly RE6ish.

Not really my thing. Meh

I think it looks good in terms of vibe. We saw no gameplay so it's all guessing. I'm not worried about repeating RE6s mistakes. They may make all new mistakes though. If it's an open world game with zombie camp icons all over the world map to clear and shite, I'm gonna be very unhappy. The open world template is way overused and feels like a chore in most games these days.
Glad third person is back. I didn't hate first person in 7/8 as much as I thought I would, but I definitely prefer 3rd person.
Given we'll be back in Raccoon City at least awhile and they prominently featured the police station, I think the rumors of Leon as the other main protagonist ring true.

Looks pretty good so far. From what I read supposedly Leon will be the main character and I’m guessing this new chick will be playable as well. It’s supposed to be a conclusion to Leon’s story so makes sense with them returning back to Raccoon city. Looking forward to seeing more
