Are some games programmed to help?

I was playing COD WW2 and could NOT get past a certain level. It involved hand to hand combat with a German soldier that had a knife and I could not grab a helmet to bash him off of me.
I think he stabbed and killed me ten times in a row. Finally after just about giving up I miraculously grabbed the helmet and bashed him. I didn’t do anything different.
So I was wondering if games are programmed to realize after a while you obviously need help. Of course this was on ‘Easy’ level so maybe at this level they offer some kind of assistance to help move you along.
Anyone aware that this is the case?

Yes.
I don't specifically know about CoD but in general there are many games nowadays that employ some kind of adaptive difficulty in the background. The games will make segments progressively easier to help players get through when they're stuck, then ramp up the difficulty again if they're playing well further into the game.
I'm okay with it when it's optional but many games hide it in the background and don't let the player turn it on or off.

Wait you couldn’t do a quick time event? You know you can alter how those work in settings usually

I’ve never had trouble with QTE until I hit a certain point in Far Cry 3. I just flat out could not beat it.
Turns out, the QTE was coded in the absurdly stupid manner of requiring you to fill a status bar, which is in turn coded to take up X% of the pixels on your screen. So because I was playing at an ultrawide resolution, it became impossible. Switched to a standard resolution and beat it easily in one attempt. I was so fricking mad

QTEs are usually in cutscene like times that require you to press whatever button shows up in a quick fashion.
Like a guy bayonet charges you and you have to quickly press square or you die.
Usually under the accessibility tab they have options to either disable them or simplify them
