Not even close. MS purchasing Activision still leaves Sony as the market leader. Only the FTC made this argument in a legal context, and they got totally demolished in court because they couldn't prove even one theory of harm.

It's not complicated. It's just paying for exclusive content. I explained why this isn't feasible for Microsoft to emulate. Sony can pay less to purchase exclusives.

Another tactic Sony uses is paying for co-branding and joint advertising that doesn't mention that a game comes out on other consoles.

Obviously, Microsoft COULD do these same things, but they view it as more economical to purchase companies because they are obtaining assets. They're playing the hand they've been dealt.

This isn't an accurate representation of the current generation.

But they HAVE done those things and you denying it shows just how naive you are.

- Microsoft had marketing rights and early DLC exclusives for CoD during the life of the 360. Nearly the same deal Sony currently has.

- Microsoft had early DLC exclusives for GTA IV. If I remember correctly, Sony users got them a year later.

- Microsoft got the first Mass Effect. Sony never got it.

- Microsoft got the ESPN app before anyone else.

- Microsoft got Netflix streaming before anyone else. Netflix actually provided Blu-ray Discs for PS3 users to skirt the contract they had with Microsoft/Xbox because it kept them from providing an app on the PS3.

You must be too young to not have experienced any of that back then. So to say “it’s not profitable for them now” is asinine when it was certainly profitable for them back then. They have their self to blame for that and it started with the Xbox One. They shite on their own brand and it cost them big time. Now they’re having to open up their check book with Windows money in order to gain an edge.

Nah, you're the only one playing yourself here. You're talking about things that may/may not have happened the way you say decades ago.

In short, what you are saying is completely irrelevant to the market as it exists today. Competitive tactics from multiple console generations ago mean absolutely nothing today.

Just because you don't like the way Microsoft is playing the game doesn't make what they're doing wrong, and you look like a complete moron when you say things like they're "creating a monopoly" when not even the most powerful government in the world could prove that in court.

ETA: It's hilarious that you mentioned GTA 4. LINK

quote:

"Microsoft paid Take-Two [Interactive] to make Grand Theft Auto IV non-exclusive," he told the publication. "GTA IV was going to be a PS3 exclusive, but Microsoft paid Rockstar and Take-Two to make it a non-exclusive, and they paid them a lot."

You inadvertently gave an example of a game Microsoft had to pry away from Sony exclusivity. You are so quick to defend Sony and attack MS that you don't even verify the garbage you're spewing. Yes, Microsoft also funded the GTA 4 DLCs and got them a year before Sony. Now do GTA 3.

You basically gave an example of the history behind MS deciding to buy companies instead of pay for exclusives.

thats exactly how they happened.

if they mean nothing, sony wouldn't be purchasing exclusivity rights and microsoft wouldn't be out buying whole third party companies.

you mean Joe Biden's gov't?

whether you're too dumb to see it, give it another 2 or 3 big acquisitions and more people will start to question it. when you're big enough that no price is too big, that's a problem for the industry. do you realize that they could buy these publishers/developers:

EA
Ubisoft
Take Two
Sega
Square Enix
Konami

and still be worth more than 5 trillion dollars? 68 billion for activision is a drop in the bucket for them. you think they're just going to stop at activision? again, you're naive if you think that.

again, Windows money came to the rescue to save a dying brand.

[quote]You are so quick to defend Sony and attack MS

i haven't said anything that's "pro-Sony". i'm simply pointing out, like others here, you're fanboyism towards a brand that's buying their way out of mediocrity instead of creating something new and fresh that people want to buy.

quote:

no i didn't. quite the opposite. i gave examples of xbox doing exactly what sony is doing today which is paying for exclusivity. not buying companies. it's not sony's fault they can succeed at it while microsoft struggles. if they hadn't shot themselves in the dick with the Xbox One announcement, that generation could've went in a completely different direction and this activision acquisition may not have even happened because they probably would've made more money based off the momentum they had with the 360.

quote:

It's hilarious that you mentioned GTA 4

yeah, it is hilarious. let's take a look at how it was announced. how cheesy can it get?

YouTube Video

quote:

Now do GTA 3.

blame microsoft. not sony.

GTA 3 was a Timed PlayStation Exclusive Because Microsoft Thought the Move from 2D to 3D Was Too Complicated for Rockstar

quote:

In a recent episode of the Power On: The Story of Xbox documentary on Youtube, Xbox staff reveal how Rockstar pitched Grand Theft Auto III to Microsoft executives as an Xbox exclusive. They rejected the pitch because they didn’t believe Rockstar was capable of transforming the franchise from 2D to 3D.

quote:

They felt that it was complicated, they didn’t really understand the user interface, they thought that it was based on a game that hadn’t been all that successful. To my surprise, it was rejected.

That game turned out to be GTA 3. Rockstar then turned to Sony and the game became a timed PlayStation 2 exclusive in 2001. GTA 3 did finally release on Xbox a year later as part of the Grand Theft Auto: Double Pack with Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

so.... keep sucking that microsoft cock

The reality of all this is….

Elder Scrolls 6 being exclusive still isn’t enough for me to consider an Xbox. They are so far behind on quality games it’s quite sad.

Let’s take a look at some of the exclusives. I’ll even add ES6 just give Xbox a little boost.

Xbox:
Halo
ES6
Sea of thieves
Starfield
Valhiem
Flight simulator
Gears of war
Forza

Sony:
Bloodborne
Horizon zero Dawn
Last of us
God of War
Final Fantasy
Days Gone
Shadow of the colossus
Uncharted
The last guardian
Ghost of Tsushima
Spider man
Demon souls
Persona 5

This is just a sampler but it’s enough to come to the conclusion that not even ES6 releasing in 8 years will be enough to save Xbox.

Not even worth reading all that crap.

The most anti-merger FTC in our nation's history couldn't prove even one theory of harm in court, but yeah I'm the one who doesn't know what he's talking about here.

You're simply wrong. That's all there is to it. The more you keep pushing it, the dumber you look.

The best years of XBox are ahead of us. Game Pass is already the best deal in gaming, and the addition of Activision's catalogue isn't going to change that.

I guess I can’t knock someone for enjoying their bargain bin of games that wouldn’t normally sell on their own without a subscription service.

I guess it's admirable that you keep going back to the well after thoroughly embarrassing yourself. You've proven you're nothing more than a Sony fanboi, so it's clear it isn't worth my time to discuss this with you. Wallow in your ignorance idc.

Microsoft is going to keep buying studios so they can compete with Sony, and that is absolutely, without a doubt, verified by testimony given under oath, in response to the tactics Sony has been using. Be mad about it. Sony should have taken into account that they were out of their league if Microsoft ever decided to respond. They're getting what they asked for.
