Im getting the bug... have friends that have the oomi/uuni cooker.. UUMI
but i really like the custom built ones that are more authentic and have a real fire in them... tons of different portable ones out there from oomi to something more robust and big/thick like the Forno venetzia
Forno Venetzia
But i really like the big thick custom ones you can cook anything.. not just pizza..
im just not sure how well these things hold up in the humidity in La.. anyone have any authentic wood fired ovens? how do they do in La?
Heres a youtube of a very nice one.. prob several grand to build..

Know someone that put in custom wood fired a couple years ago or so and no issues. It’ll be fine. It’s a fireplace. A fireplace you’ll use once a year.

Lots of people. You’ll get better info on the pizzamaking forum or forno bravo forums. The only downside to a large WFO is the time it takes to get up to temperature. It’s a pain if you don’t use it often. But they give you a lot more space, better heat, and a better deck than the portable pizza ovens.
