I HATE ANTHONY'S MUFF

Just had to put that in caps. Its pressed like a panini, the meats are not high quality, and the olive spread is mealy as shite. I just don't get why people go for it. Its some ttype of italian sandwich, but its not a good muffaletta.

+1

That place, and the love for it, baffles me. I have relatives, who should know better, swear by it. It's horrid in every way, from the meats (they use freaking Hormel for christ's sake) and olive salad to the stupid pressing method you describe.

Agree. Anthony's Italian poboy isn't any better, nor is their spaghetti and meatballs. Three strike rule applies.

OTOH, the Italian hoagie at Mellow Mushroom is delicious. I've had it several times, and if I went there more often, I might even branch out and try something else.

I've posted this before, and I expect the downvotes to flow once again.

In BR, its Pocarellos.

Haven't had their muff, but this is another place I don't understand the love for. The poboys (roast beef and meatball) are mediocre, and the service is rude. I listened to the fat daughter(?) curse the whole time I was waiting, and Mrs. Pokie was like a damn surly bartender, acting like she was doing me a favor by serving me.

There's a gas station in Central (BR) on the corner of Hooper and Joor. Exxon maybe? That not only has the best Muff ever, but the best smoked sausage and egg biscuit ever.

It was good BUT they put mayonnaise on it. Muffs don't have mayo.

Mayonnaise on a muffaletta is a giant no-no for me. The idea of combining olive salad and mayo makes me nauseous. Seriously. I got a muffaletta from Spanish Town Grocery, ate about half of it, realized it had mayo and had to throw it away.
I have issues with mayo. I gag when I'm dealing with large amounts of it, like making potato salad or a sauce/dressing.

DiMartino's #1
LaBella's in Kenner as well

I like them hot with the cheese melty and the breach crisp, which is why I put Central Grocery down my list.

For non traditional, you simply can't beat Cochon Butcher and Liuzza's Fernchuletta
