Those shrimp are so tasty but like others noted they are not prepared like other shrimp that everyone is accustomed to eating. The normal shrimp they catch around the gulf are caught at the top in not very deep water. Years ago the government was out in the gulf dragging nets around 1,200 to 1,800 feet deep. Lord knows what they were looking for but they stumbled up on Royal Reds south of Gulf Shores and didn’t know what to make of it. When steamed in water and lemon they have a buttery taste to me. Anytime I’ve thrown them in the pot to soak with crawfish I thought they were okay but it altered that lobster type taste they have. It’s very easy to overcook those things.

They are delicious in things like pasta with a cream or butter/wine sauce. The flavor is great with things that won’t overpower theirs.
