The random dimples without a pattern are a bsr id. From the 60s on the dimples were in a pattern and the # would have been on the inside.

The asians did make some knockoffs but they wouldnt really match a bsr, lodge, wagner etc, they kinda copied everybody.

Did a restore today of my wife’s daily user. It was awesome on the inside bottom, but the sides had build up, and the outside bottom was just horrible.

I baked it on my grill for about 3 hours (ran out of gas), then sprayed it down with easy off for a couple hours. Then, I simple beat on it with a 2 lb maul. That shite came right off. A little scraping, wire brushing, and a good cleaning with steel wool and scotch bright, it’s in the oven now, getting baked.

Bought this piece from a woman in her 90’s from Lawrenceburg Tn. She said it belonged to her grandmother and that she had two of these and this was the “extra” than never got used hence the feet are not burned or worn off. Paid $100 for it.

This piece is on my grandparents old home place. I think they used it to scald hogs in. Will try to season it one day if I can get my nerve up.

Finished this restoration. Wagner Ware 10, cast sometime between 1895 and 1915. Bought it from a woman off Craigslist who's daughter didn't want it.

Lye bath and steel wool scrub.

Well, some guy stopped by today and bought nearly the entire collection that I picked up.
I broke even (spent $650, got $650 back), and the #10 Dutch oven is all mine for free.
I have one piece left, the 2528 hinged fryer (only the large fryer, missing the top half).
When it sells, I’m giving the money to the guy who I bought the collection from. After we settled on the $650 price, he let me know his wife was going through chemo, so I told him anything over $650, I’m giving to his wife.

Good on you for paying it back. Hope you get top dollar for the fryer for him. Sounds like the guy knows his stuff, and will be a good resource for you going forward. And a friend to boot.

These are two pieces I had, I was going to put into my garage sale, but gave them to a friend who restores cast iron.
It took him less than a day to do it.

I've been into cast iron for a long time. At one point I had 30-35 pieces. Then I realized that the best thing for cast iron is constant use.

I sold off a lot of my iron and focused on a few key pieces.

I have my 5 gal jambalaya kettle.
3 Butterpat Skillets (these are awesome BTW)
Griswold #9 Dutch Oven
Griswold Muffin Pan
Lodge Single Burner griddle
Lodge Chicken Fryer
Lodge Fish Pan

Method
I preheat my iron before each use. I lightly oil/butter/grease before cooking. I clean it while still warm after cooking with mildly soapy water. Hand-dry, then lightly coat with Pam. Heat to dry again.

I need some advice I guess. I don’t think mine is turning out right.

It still seems a little discolored to me. The rust wasn’t bad, but I used mild soap, water, and a copper scrub. I put some elbow grease into and thought it was alright (the color seemed fine). I seasoned once with avocado oil which I normally use, but it just doesn’t look right. What am I doing wrong here?
