Ultra-processed foods (UPF) are industrially manufactured products formulated from substances extracted from foods or synthesized in laboratories, combined with cosmetic additives like emulsifiers, artificial flavors, and preservatives to create hyperpalatable, shelf-stable items. These products are specifically engineered to behave as addictive substances, driving excess consumption.
