If you're going to wrap, use butcher paper, not foil. Foil is what you wrap with if you want pot roast.

I've done both with good results. Foil will soften your bark a touch but it's not a deal breaker for me. You're not presenting in a comp anyway but paper is my preference.

And a little tip...if you're smoking a butt at home (non-comp), cut it across the middle about 3/4 way through then turn it 90 degrees and do it again. Kinda spread out the 4 chunks and get rub on the insides. You'll create more bark AND it'll cook way faster.
