Catfish isn't as good (I don't like the fish fry they're using as much as Matherne's), but the fried chicken I tried was as good or maybe better. As with all deli fried chicken, the trick is to get it while it's really fresh, so maybe I just hit it at the right time.

As for that fresh LA shrimp for $2.59/lb--we got some a few days ago, boiled them up and they were very good. The butcher told me the ones on ice that you pack yourself were Louisiana gulf shrimp, but I did notice the ones they had pre-packed in the fish/meat cooler for the same price said "Product of Ecuador" and they looked different.

Boiled crawfish they had this weekend for $2.49/lb was tasty also. Not really spicy hot, but had a lot of flavor.

I still feel a tad disloyal to Matherne's for some strange reason every time I shop there.
