Purée onion/celery in seafood boil?

I've been watching this guy Smoky Ribs out of Mississippi on YouTube. For some of his boils he blends up the onion and some celery then adds it to the boil as almost a purée/paste.

Any experience with this method?

That sounds like some MS blasphemy. The whole seasoning is delicious...but i guess it might infuse a bit more flavor in the liquid.

I agree, plus you can't eat the onions if you puree them. Also, that guys put a shite ton of seasoning, to much IMO.
