For a food board full of chain restaurant hatred, sure don't give a shite about local grocery stores. Keep wishing for chains and see what happens.

You mean like HEB's excellent signature line of products for cheaper than current BR prices, excellent delis, prepared to-go foods, great hrs, and God forbid one of HEB's Central Markets in BR, NO, Shr, Laf?

Where do we sign the peitition?

Are you a AG store owner? I appreciate your efforts, but a city of BR's size to have but AGs(granted Calvin and Matherne's a cut above the rest), Albertsons, Walmarts, two Targets, two Calandros, one Whole Food, one Fresh Market, and a few stray Winn-Dixies & Piggly-Wigglys, is sad.

Was an downright third-world abomination just a handful of years ago when without WF, FM, & Target in town. Or a decade ago, before Maxwells arrived.

Winn-Dixie in BR no longer has a ditributor for Jones Soda Cola..Kroger in LC or Texas the closest one can be bought.

The competition, and the lead brought by the elite grocer's buyers(whom go to markets and conventions,etc..), is what gets the little local guys like Calvins, Maxwells, Mathernes, etc..on their toes, and stocking/mimicking their stock on shelve space.

Before their arrivals, I constantly had to bring back hundreds of dollars of products from Hou and Atl runs to visit friends . Now rarely do anything other than occasional Spec's bargain buys for booze.

You want a deli, not a grocery store. And no Publix or HEB will compete w/ Calvins chicken salad. Sorry

I guess on a Rouse's level.

I've never understood why Rouse's is supposed to be so great. I frequent the one in Midcity and it blows my mind that it is praised by people from New Orleans.

Wow, you couldn't be more wrong. I know all those stores in and out. I want groceries, HEB has an excellent line of signature HEB groceries, and at dynamite prices. Let alone deli items.

And though I buy Calvins Chicken Salad(er Pate), it's an easy homemade recipe. Buy a Vita-Mix with Turbo button, chicken, and Das Boot dvd, when the Krauts sub is sunk after four hrs, turn off the VitaMix..voila..Calvins Chicken Salad consistency.

P.S. Shelby's Chicken Salad >>> Calvin's..it's right next to it in the case. Kudos to Calvin for stocking it. I remember him as teen bagging groceries in that very store.

Publix >>>>>>>>>>> Rouses

It depends on which ones you go to. If it was a store that was bought and then remodeled to be a Rouses, it's a lot different than the ones built from scratch.

Rouses>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Publix (for the most part)

Hubby worked in Texas for a couple years and we still go visit at least few times a year. Every time we go I make a huge HEB shopping trip. I LOVE that store!

When I first shopped at HEB, I was in shock and awe of how awesome the store is. I felt deprived from all the years of shopping at Walmart, Rouses, and Winn-Dixie in Louisiana.

Agreed. Some of the ones in Metairie are gross but that's because Rouses took over the former Sav-A-Center stores. I've been to the Rouse's in Slidell before and it's a lot nicer than the ones in Metairie.

The rumor was that Publix had purchased land off I-10 west of Mobile and was building a big distribution center there then would expand westward into the Miss Gulf Coast and Northshore. Plan is on hold with shitty economy apparently.

There's been plans sitting on my desk for three years for a shopping center there. Not happening anytime soon.

I thought it was supposed to be a nice mixed-use development.

What is the status? That is some prime real-estate there.

I would have a boner for either Publix or HEB.

I'd have a bigger boner for Trader Joe's, though.

Seems like Publix is a ways away since they haven't even gotten into Mississippi yet.

I love Trader Joes, even far more than Central Market or Whole Foods. The day BR lands one or both of Trader Joe and/or Costco..is LANDMARK!!

In the works for New Orleans. BR shouldn't be too far behind.
