My in laws are getting ready to take what is likely their last road trip. FIL's health is in decline and wants to go back to Atlanta for the zoo and aquarium one last time (it's their thing). He also wants fresh Georgia peaches.

They'll be coming back to BR via I-85 and were hoping to find an orchard to get fresh peaches without going far off the interstate. I-75 to the Macon area is an option for them too. They just need a place that's easy to find.

Any can't miss spots in west/central GA that they should try are greatly appreciated. TIA!

Two options really. Since they will be in Atlanta, they could head up I85 and then I985 to Jaemor Farms. It is just north of Gainesville about 1 1/2 hours NE of downtown ATL, the opposite direction compared to heading back to BR. They are going to have a nice crop this year but tends to be a little later starting than middle GA.

Or they could head to south of Macon to the peach growing area down there.

Both options are out of the way for them.

Probably detouring to middle Georgia would be less out of the way. They could cut across to Montgomery from there.

Dickey Farms is the orchard that is the most "northern" of the middle Georgia ones I think.

Sorry, I'm not aware of an orchard on 85 heading SW out of GA from Atlanta.

Jaemore or the places in middle Georgia are going to be your best bets. Jaemore is a pretty cool place if you've never been. I went to a local vegetable stand (Sherry's) in Tucker today and they had early peaches from South Carolina.

It would be out of their way to go down I-75 and then cut over, but then going up to Jaemore would be too.

Parkway Farmer's Market in Opelika would probably have peaches from either Georgia or South Carolina. You could look them up and call. It's only a couple miles off I-85.

There's a place just south of Macon in Fort Valley, GA. Have you heard anything about Lane's Southern Orchards?

Appreciate your responses. I want to help them make they most of this trip.

Never been to Lane's, but there are several farmer's markets/peach orchard farms south of Atlanta. The early ripening peaches should just be coming in. From there, they could hop over to Columbus (13th Street BBQ in Phenix City is a place I like), then get on US 80 and hit I-85 just south of Auburn at the Wire Road exit.

We got peaches at Fitzgerald Farms last year and they were pretty good.

Yes Lane's is a great place. Been many times.

It's like a peach farm super store. Huge, modern place and big selection of peach products beyond fresh peaches.

The reason I suggested Dickey's is because it is not as far out of the way. It is in Mussela which is further north and they could hit Highway 80 and head over to Montgomery and then take I 65 home.

Dickey's is much smaller in terms of other retail items but it's in a beautiful historic packing shed. It looks the way Lane's and the others did decades ago. Here is a link. Both are good.
