oiling your grill grates

like to lightly oil the grates before cooking, and have just been using a rag and vegetable oil

I usually put oil on a paper towel and wipe.
I've also heard of people using half of an onion to season and clean their grates.

Pam after cooking and heating to super hot to cook off all of the residue. Then Pam before cooking.
