This was just announced today. Supposed to be open by the end of the year.

Diners at the Pizitz Food Hall in downtown Birmingham's soon-to-reopen historic Pizitz building will have their choice of everything from banh mi to biscuits, Latin street food to Israeli cuisine, developer Bayer Properties announced today. The Pizitz Food Hall is expected to open this winter, and Bayer revealed the tenants today, which include 13 food stalls, two restaurants and a bar.

Would you be as excited if they called it a food court?

Literally just had this same conversation over drinks. Consensus was probably not.
But can't help but thinking about the floor under the Plaza in NYC or all the cool food stalls in Pikes Place. Got to start somewhere right?

Actually, I think the idea of a food hall is great. I just hope they don't turn into a "if you seen one food hall in America, you seen them all" experience. Basically, I hope it ain't the same restaurants serving the same food and offering the same experience, but just in a different city.

Is this the one across from McWane they've been working on for a while?

Yes. On first north.
Some of the shops looks pretty electic. I hope they are successful.
They are building a ton of living space downtown. IF people move there, they'll need retail to support it.

Yeah I pass there when I'm running over to railroad park at lunch. Definitely walkable from Regions for lunch. When the Publix finally opens I think we'll see more people moving in. My boss just moved downtown and is complaining about groceries. She has to drive a good ways to get to a Walmart or target.
