100% agree with a PK. I have the 300, but never an issue cleaning. I use it for grilling hot and fast for steaks, burgers whatever and hold temp perfectly for 2 zone smoking. I did get the grill grates and it came with free carbon steel plate for griddle action. I am very pleased with my PK.

Have you smoked anything on it?

WSM is on my list. But would I be able to grill steaks?
Take the center piece off ang set a grill grate over the base piece. It's close enough to heat to get good grilling results.
Might be out of your stated price range but I recommend giving the Primo kamados a look.

Pellet smokers aren’t destined to do high heat like this
I highly suggest not to get a pellet smoker thinking you can use it like a grill. They are marketed that way but they aren’t designed that way

Terrible for a smoker.
The dual walled steel works great as a smoker and I would say better than a ceramic since it isn’t so efficient that it smolders. I can get 36 hours plus at 250 ish on one load of fuel on my Weber Kamado.

Weber Kamado doesn’t even need this since the lid is made of steel and way lighter than a ceramic.

You'll be able to convince someone to change who they pray to and/or spend eternity before you convince someone that 1) the CFB team they root for is trash and 2) What it takes to make good BBQ.
That Weber "Kamado" looks like a giant Yeti cup.

I agree. Just trying to steer the OP in a great direction. I love the way mine looks and love the way it performs. I feel the steel is superior to the ceramic in almost every way.
1) doesn’t crack and don’t have to worry about it breaking
2) easy to move around the patio
3) can use lump or briquettes
4) don’t have to worry about over shooting your temps as it is much easier to bring it down in temp
5) burns cleaner smoke because it isn’t so efficient that the fire smolders
6) cheaper
7) much easier ash management system
8) no firebox that needs replacement

but heard the Masterbilt Gravity Series is great.

If the retail price is in line with the MSRP from what I saw on the Weber website, it gives all indication of being every bit as expensive as the more traditional ceramic Kamado brands without the cache.
Lighter and easier to move says "blow the frick away in a bad storm" or at a minimum, fall over and get dented.
With one of the knocks against BGE being their fire box/ring being prone to breakage, I think that KJ's modular fire box design is absolutely brilliant. Should something happen to one of the individual pieces, just replace the one section.
Cooking with charcoal briquettes in a $1k+ smoker is equivalent to sitting down to pee.

Weber Kamado is $1,250
Big Joe is $2-3k

It still weighs 142 pounds. Mine made it through Hurricane Ida without tipping over. You’ve obviously never seen one in person.

I’ve tried all kinds of lump. Still much prefer briquettes. Good thing is I have an option with the Weber.

It’s a legit Kamado. I have a BGE and would trade mine in a heartbeat.

Do a deeper dive. People have posted pictures here of them rusting out.
Lastly, Pellet grills are for women. Sorry, not sorry.

It's the BBQ version of sharing your pronouns.

Guys,
Thanks for all of the input. I've decided to go with the PK360 and get an aftermarket Gamechanger Heat Deflector.
After extensive research (probably 50 youtube reviews) and this thread...I've settled on this grill because it will
1. Last a long time
2. Give me real charcoal smoke flavor
3. Wont require a plug
4. Is the right size to feed my family of 5
It lacks the convenience of the pellet grill/smoker but in the grand scheme of things, it can get to temp almost as fast. The Weber Searwood gets to temp the fastest at 13 minutes but a charcoal grill is ready in about 25 minutes...the difference is about 1 beer in my backyard.
Thanks for helping me find a premium grill/smoker. Maybe one day I'll splurge and get a 1/4" steel stick burner when the kids are gone to college.

Well I guess it was fake news / AI images.
“Error codes” on a BBQ pit. Lmao.

Sorry for the late response. Yes, i have smoked tons of items. Chicken thighs, 8 pound pork butt and most recently beef dino ribs. Keep in mind, with such a small cooking chamber for a smoker, the actual cooking time is usually much less as oppsed to an offset. But it does awesome as a smoker

Grills Grills mammoth, yes pellet, but you can smoke chunk wood right on top of fire box.
