If you want to get a little off the everyday places, when I was stationed at Ft. Sam, there was a Church's Fried Chicken place just off post through the south gate. IT had a liquor store right beside it. We would catch the bus to it, and buy a box of chicken and a bottle of cheap wine, then we would go back and sit on the curb behind the barracks and eat chicken and drink wine.

I don't know if the Church's Chicken place is still there because I am remembering nights that were 55 + years ago. but they had really good chicken, and the second half of the wine bottle was always smoother than the first half.

That's all I got. Be sure to go to the Alamo. Right in the middle of Downtown.

Oh, go to the Market Square and eat at Mi Tierra. Great Tex-Mex.
