what are tostones and maduros ?

In addition to TT4E, I also had a little primer on it on the first page of the thread. If I do get plantains, I usually order the maduros. But on a whim, I decided to try the tostones yesterday, since I hadn't had them in a while. I almost polished off the order before even touching my beef stew, they were that good.

but I've honestly never been big on corn tortillas.

Me neither. (Except in enchiladas of course.)

By the way, the wife and I went to La Mexicana last weekend and it was good. Had the Carne Asada.......and my favorite surprise was the homemade flour tortillas.

I'm always shocked when you go to a supposed "authentic" Mexican or Latin restaurant and they use store bought tortillas. Big let down for me.

I finally went there a few weeks back, but am holding off on a review until I go again.

FWIW, a lot of Mexican places use bulk corn tortillas from Sysco or Diaz Foods or whomever. I love the homemade tortillas at Ninfa's and Mi Padre's, though there's no telling how much lard goes into each one.

Dude, my fav's are the big tortillas from Ninfa's. Honestly, I could just sit there and eat those tortillas and salsa.....dip and eat. Dip and eat.

Where is Mi Padres?

I thought you liked La Mexicana?

The Carne was good. I get the Carne Asada at Fernados too and it's much bigger over there. My wife had the chicken fajitas and they were so-so....kind of chicken chunks.

This place really doesn't overdo seasoning like some Mexican places. I'm sure the beef soup a lot of people get for lunch has some salt in it, but it's really not noticeable in the dishes I order. You can order the fish filet with grilled veggies, and tell her exactly how you want it prepared.

I want to try out the best that they have there though, so you would have to tell me what to get. I am coming through Baton Rouge on June 13, which is a Saturday, if you want to see about grabbing lunch. I am going to a wedding that day, so I would have to see what time I actually have to be there, but I can let you know if you do want to have lunch.

I liked the food, chicken was really bland though. I need to go back and try one other dish, but overall it's a good restaurant. It's too far of a drive for me, though. I'd have to go Airline, then all the way down Jefferson and Tiger Bend.
