I'll be in town for the game this weekend, my buddy and I would like to sample some local beers. Any good brewery suggestions? Crafty Bastard looks pretty cool.

How far out are you wanting to venture?

Just in the general vicinity of downtown/campus you have a bunch of options.

Pretentious in Old City is probably my favorite.

Alliance, Printshop, and Hi-Wire all have South Knox taprooms... I think I would rank them in that order as well, but it really depends on what they each have tapped at the time.

Blackhorse is a nice brewpub on Gay St. with good beer and really good food.

Balter is another downtown area brewpub, excellent food, decent beer but nothing that blows me away.

Craft Bastard is just north of Old City, they always have interesting beers on tap. Schulz Brau is close by if you want some really well done German styles. Elkmont is in the area as well, another brewpub.

Knox Whiskey Works and Postmodern Spirits are both excellent distilleries in the Old City area.

If you are staying away from downtown/campus I can probably recommend somewhere close by as well.

Those are all great recommendations, thanks! I definitely want to check out Crafty Bastard, Pretentious and Shulz Brau. Alliance, Printshop and Hi-Wire look to be within decent walking distance from each other, maybe hop those bars after the game.

Those are all walkable if you want to, plus there are a lot of other non-brewery places in the vicinity. Right across from Schulz Brau is a place called Central Filling Station that's basically a food truck park with a bar and lawn games.

You could... Alliance and Hi-Wire are an easy walk between, Printshop is a little further but still doable. Right across from Alliance is a wood-fired pizza spot called South Coast Pizza that's delicious... I picked up from them last time I was at Hi-Wire. Southside Garage is right there as well.
