Has anyone used the high heat brisket smoking technique?

As the article says it goes against many years of bbq knowledge. I've had my fire jump up and not been drinking and not paying attention and have it Hit the internal temp in about 6 hours before and the outter ring of the meat burned and was hard and dry.

Would be interesting to try out, but would be worried about ruining a big chunk of good meat

I was reading the Franklin BBQ cookbook the other day and he says he does briskets at 260. I mentioned that to a friend who used to work there and says they can smoke at that high a temp because the smokers he uses are so large and the heat is very indirect. I still go at 180 over night, wrap and then push it to 205 get get through the stall.
