is that bakery any good? i always wanted to get some churros but its a decent drive.
I wrote a brief review of the place back in 2008 on here.
It's a good, bakery, their tres leches cake is terrific. Try as I may, I can't find a thread I wrote on their Latin breakfast dishes. They serve fresh pupusas made with the real deal queso con loroco from el Salvador, and tamales de elote (sweet corn tamales with no meat).
I stopped going to that bakery after the Pinedas Bakery opened up further down Siegen, though (it's in the same strip mall as La Tiendita taqueria and grocery store). You walk in, grab a metal tray and some tongs, and grab whatever you want from this huge wall of multicolored Mexican pastries. Everything is baked fresh, and I've never seen such a big selection of Latin American pastries and cookies in Louisiana.
They make great churros, I drop in there for fresh coffee and a guava/cream cheese pastelito sometimes. I had breakfast at La Tiendita this morning, stopped by the bakery, but left without getting anything.

aside from you saying they were related, i realize it when i went to saritas a few weeks ago when one of the waitresses at el magey was in sarita's doing some stuff not related to work it looked like.

They definitely rotate staff around when one restaurant needs it. The sister-in-law of the Sarita's owner is a friend of mine, she'll work as manager at either location when someone needs time off.
The only reason I knew they were opening out in Ascension is because the woman working at the Pineda's Bakery on Siegen used to be a waitress at Sarita's, her husband still cooks at el Magey.
BR's population is somewhere around 4% Hispanic, but it's a small world if you frequent certain stores, restaurants, clubs, Latin festivals or Hispanic church services.

Location.
Sarita's shares a parking lot with the Station, so anyone that goes to the bar knew about it. Not to mention anyone passing by the post office or Hobby Lobby would have known it was there.
The Pancho's on Florida was stuck in the back of a dying strip of stores, but even that isn't the whole story of why they closed.
El Magey's days could be numbered once the new Pancho's opens up on Siegen in a few months, though.
