re: Getting into gin

You must try a gin derived from sugar cane. The St. Augustine distillery (which is somewhat new) has a really outstanding gin that I highly recommend. It's the gin that made be start to gain interest in gin.

The only problem is that the distillery is so new (~3 years?) that their distribution is probably not too far outside of Florida.

It's so tasty that I can just drink it with some seltzer water

Isn't that called rum?

I like a negroni but mostly I just go Campari and soda and skip the gin.
as far as gin goes plain old beefeater consistently scores well in tastings against the higher priced brands. If you are mixing (i.e. something other than a martini) you can do a lot worse and spend a lot more than a bottle of beefeater

Donner-Peltier makes a pretty decent one with a hint of satsuma. Same people that make the rougaro rum.

Just go to the liquor store and ask for bumpy face...
