If you aren't willing to at least get a medium sized grill for the charcoal, pass on it.
In my experience, using the smalls may not have enough fuel to maintain a high enough temperature to cook the food well.
One time on a small grill I had leg quarters on the grill for an hour and a half, and the chicken never got to its recommended temperature before the fire was dying down....which leaves you kinda SOL. You have to be very careful with the small grills that you don't overload the grate with food, which can happen fairly easily.
Grilling with charcoal imparts a definitively better taste, at the cost of loss of easy control. You will need to note where the fire is the hottest, and possibly rotate food constantly as the situation requires.
Gas grilling sacrifices that complexity of taste to make it idiot proof.
To me, there is no hard pros/cons. It depends on how you use it.
If you want to grill in a holiday esque setting where you park next to the grill with a beer for a few hours, charcoal.
If you want a grill to cook a quick off-the-cuff weekday meal, gas.

Grilling is my time to sit outside and enjoy a cold one while listening to or watching a ball game. The fact that gas grills get ready to cook so fast is a negative to me. I want spend at least an hour or more outside relaxing.

I echo this sentiment. Sometimes the food is done too fast and I'm not ready to go inside just yet.
But with a Weber Performer, it really doesn't take that much more time to get the grill ready (mine is ready in 20 minutes, which is about how long it takes me to prep the food for the grill anyways). I grill out about 5 times a week.

I have a large charcoal grill I built 16 years ago out of a 55 gallon drum. Cost me $35 to build.
You could not give me a better pit for BBQ.
I use it for big cook outs, smoking, chickens ect.
However a few months ago I bought a small weber Q gas grill and I love it too for grilling a few burger, chops, pizza, veggies or chicken breast. I use it 2-3 times a week. I used it last night just to grill a few ears of corn for some roasted corn grits..
I don't think I could live with out it now.
