Never tried Parrains but I've heard good things.
Same people as the Chimes, but a little nicer and better and a little more $$. Still a good spot in my opinion.
Some good suggestions in here... Chimes is a great option especially if you want to try a few local beers as well.
I've always enjoyed Sammy's, but it's nothing amazing. It's better than George's though, at least in my opinion.

Menus are very different. I see where you are coming from, but because of that I wouldn't say "better."

I have heard a lot about the restaurant Boutin's
For what you described, Sammy's, Chimes, and Parrain's will do you nicely. I would also get a poboy or sandwich from George's for lunch one day.

Chimes on campus for food/atmosphere and a great beer list.
Roberto's out in St. Gabriel around the University Club is great. Went there Saturday and it was delicious.
Beausoleil is very good.
Parrain's is also very good. Owned by the same people that own chimes. Food is a bit better but beer variety isn't as good. Menu is pretty close to being the same.
But if it's just you and 2 dudes and y'all want some atmosphere. Go to the chimes on campus. Unbeatable campus atmosphere and one of the better beer lists in town.

It's really not.
