Whiskey comes from Kentucky, not Texas

No. All bourbon is whiskey but not all whiskey is bourbon. To be a bourbon is must be from a mash that’s at least 51% corn and produced in America. It also must be distilled at no more than 160 proof and in the barrel at 125 proof. Has to be bottled at no less than 80 proof and has to be aged in new oak-charred barrels. Can’t have any flavor additives or coloring (some whiskeys like Jack Daniels are filtered through charcoal which is a flavor additive). And so on.

Why majority is produced in Kentucky is because it’s been made here for a couple hundred years so they can sustain a long-aged product where a smaller distiller elsewhere may not. Some say it’s the limestone branch water and the seasons (when it comes to heat and aging) that make it easier to produce good product. Highly recommend doing distillery tours if you’re up this way. It’s pretty interesting to see how they’ve refined the mass production.

I prefer bourbon. Especially Four Roses or Basil Hayden. But I don’t mind a good whiskey.
