Did y'all eat at any unagi restaurants? That's one of my favorite memories from my trip to Japan.

Strictly speaking I am going to say no. However, we dined one night in a small restaurant (Tokyo) where we sat at the bar and drank all night long while the guy fixed item after item and presented them to us. He had a smoker, a deep fryer and a hibachi (charcoal) grill. One of the best things he cooked was eel. Several 6 inch pieces lined up on the plate, smoked and then grilled. Tasty, as were a snail he grilled (never understood the Japanese name). They were about 4 inches long, grilled with the shell and really good. Then beef and other stuff. Got smashed as everyone else did. Have no idea how we got back to our Hotel only that Oh-San delivered us home and picked us up bright and early the next day.
