Went to DC over last weekend.
Ate good every meal
Started night one with an Ethiopian platter from Gursha near Dupont Circle, it taste better than it looks. It's beef nubs, collard greens, red lentils and chickpeas with flat bread.
Next morning went to Kramers All Day which is a bookstore with a restaurant in it. It's pretty popular and fills up quick.
I got a peach and whipped ricotta waffle with a side of eggs scrambled.
Lunch I went to Jaleo. I've tried a few other Jose Andres restaurants what made me pick here was the 3 tapas and dessert for $26 deal.
Started with a glass of gazpacho.
Then a goat cheese stuffed pepper.
Then Gambas al ajilo or Shrimp in garlic olive oil.
Followed by flan. It was all really good.
I got around mostly by bicycle and rode often to the mall and Capitol Hill and Georgetown just because.
Around 10pm I went to a Doner Kabob shop around the corner from my hotel in Dupont Circle called, Capital Doner.
For $12 it was a fat sandwich that I couldn't finish in a sitting
Next morning I started with a bagel from a nearby store called Bagels etc. (Np)
After the Washington monument I was hungry again so went to a place called Rice Bar. It's like a Korean Chipotle. Pick your starch, your protein and your toppings. It was really good. So good that the next day I tried the same concept at a different place.
This was rice, chicken, hot sauce, spicy cucumber, bean sprouts, fried garlic, green onions and kimchi
That night I went to the meal I was most excited for Moon Rabbit. I love Vietnamese food, I eat it in some variation weekly. This was an expensive meal. It cost $130 because I didn't realize there was a 22% service fee until after I signed the receipt. Oh well. I did the taste of Vietnam menu. It's not set the table next to me got a totally different meal.
I think it was worth it for the experience but not a place I would go to a lot, though I can't anyway. I guess it was Michelin quality. Service was great, food mostly exceptional and the drink was good as well.
It started with a "small bite" of egg cake with sesame seed and anchovy. My least favorite thing.
Next was a shot that was a broth with seasoning meant to cleanse the pallet.
Next was Snapper canapé with pepper and strawberry with avocado and a semi sweet tomato juice.
Next was my favorite, Bo LA Lat, or stuffed leaf. It was Wagyu beef, perilla leaves served with labneh and fermented honey.
Next course was the meal or Pate Chaud. It was a crispy puff pastry full of a mix of foie gras and woodear mushrooms with a pork jus. This was really good as well. More French than Vietnamese though the seasoning was more like a pho with anise and fennel.
Last was a mango based dessert. It wasn't in the menu so I don't know the name.
.
Took metro back to hotel and caught a comedy show at the Comedy Loft.
Next morning based on a locals suggestion I went to Georgetown to Call Your Mother Deli for a Bagel sandwich. I kept going for Bagels because it's something that's hard to find done well in my area.
I went for a basic egg and cheese this time. The bagel was on a NY Deli level for sure and I went back the next day for a cream cheese smear one.
Someone I know told me about these cookies in Georgetown at Levain bakery so I biked over there and checked it out.
I biked to the MLK monument and stopped for a snack. The first cookie was a coconut chocolate chip and it was the best cookie I've ever had. I regret not getting a dozen to take home. The cookies weren't cheap but were worth it.
I biked around the mall to Capitol Hill then back to Dupont Circle. Walked the entire Embassy area then took a metro to Chinatown for late lunch.
I went to Seoul to Seoul which was similar but not as popular as Rice Bar. The options weren't as good but the prices were less. I liked my Bulgolgi bowl, plus it was only $13 such is cheap for Korean.
Walked to the Portrait Gallery, then made it to American Art Museum. Was happy to get to 5 Smithsonians and every monument this trip. Even the ones between Jeffrrson and Lincoln, Like The George Mason memorial.
I ate my second cookie. Walnut chocolate chip. This one was even better.
I did a self guided tour of the area between Dupont and The White House, then for dinner for a Lobster Roll. This is anther dish not common in NOLA and I opted for the Connecticut style which is hot with drawn butter.
It was pretty good. I learned in Boston I prefer it hot rather than cold with mayo.
This was my last night.
In the morning, I got up, checked out my shite Hotel that reminded me a lot of the place I stayed in Amsterdam. Run down but cheap with great location.
I should have paid the extra $40 a night and stayed in the Sonesta around the corner.
.
I saw there was anther Call Your Mother closer than Georgetown so I biked there, then biked to the metro then the train station to the airport.
I got an everything with garlic herb with red onion and cucumber.
Again I find DC to have a lot of variety and to be a good place to try some new things.
The big negative is the service fee assume places add to the bill. Don't just hand your credit card to the server read the bill or else you'll accidently tip 42% like me.

Yeah that's what tipped the scale for me to go there. High end viet cajun.
It was really good.
