Looking for some help with boiling a sack of crawfish this weekend. Its only going to be 1 sack, but i dont know if i can do it with the equipment i have.

Ive been to a million boils in my life, but never done it myself at my house.

i have a 30 qt pot and strainer and 5 PSI regulator and a stand.

My question is, is that enough to do 1 sack plus fixins? i know it will be 2 or 3 batches, but will the fire be hot enough or do i need to go get an extra burner or attachment?

TIA

30QT pot for 32-38 lbs of crawfish and fixins? Youll probably have to split that sack in half and run 2 boils

38,000 BTU

thats pretty low.

most people on here are using around 200k. the pots are twice as big or more though.

maybe just fill the thing up and do a test run with clean water

I think 50k is good enough for 30 qts, but it might take close to an hour with 38k.

if you ever plan to get a bigger pot, just get a big burner now

i mean it would get a double jet burner, which is around 200k. its something like 60-70 on amazon.

https://www.amazon.com/Bayou-Classic-SP2-Double-Cooker/dp/B001FTS32W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1527101176&sr=8-1&keywords=bayou+classic+double+jet+burner

60 bucks

its overkill for your current pot, but it wil be perfect if you upgrade to an 80 or 100qt pot

You are going to have to do 2, probably 3 batches if you have a decent amount of fixings. I can't do a full sack in my 60 qt if I add many or any fixings. It might do a full sack with no fixings.

I'd just try to borrow a 60 or 80 qt pot, that way you'd only have to do 1-2 batches.

Burners are cheap. All you need is a bayou classic single jet. They are like $35 on amazon and plenty of power.

Well yeah...but you will still likely be doing 3 batches for a sack. You will just have your water rolling lightning fast. The only concern some people have with the double jet is that it can freeze up your tank if you run it on high too long (i.e. if you are doing a big batch). You should probably just get it because it's only $30 more than the single jet.

I have a single jet and it does a fine enough job for a 100 qt pot. I've considered switching, but it brings water back to a simmer in 5 - 6 minutes after dropping a whole sack or more in.

Yeah, if I could go back in time I would have bought a double instead.
