I'd pick lafayette over almost every city in Louisiana expect for New Orleans of course for great restaurants.
This. Saying that Lafayette isn't a good food city is ridiculous.

what Laffayette has to work with.

I'm curious about what you mean by this.

Everything, literally

Access to fresh seafood, local stuffed meats, nice local produce, a long notorious history for serious food unique to the area and renowned throughot the country as such, and for such a small geograpphic area, history and culture all it's own and again unique, and a population that not only takes great pride in it but also loves great food. Pretty much everything most everywhere else lacks in spades.

Add to that local music and a language unique to South Louisiana and seen as the seat of Cajun everything, and what more exactly could you ask for. Few if any, save NOLA has as much going for it to be anything it wants.

Not sure why it was suggested that women are to blame for lack of success at Cochon because we don't "get it."

I've been told by several women (mostly older ladies) that there is not much on the menu "for them". No offense to you.

How can someone look at that menu and not find something for them? I'd kill for this place to be in Baton Rouge. Serves Link right. Come to BR!!!

You, I, and probably the rest on here from BR as well as quite a few others would go there frequently, but is that enough to sustain it here given BR's super safe mentality to branching out and food in general? Those would be my questions, and I'm sure they are Link's as well. I think it would do well in the short term because it's new and would be "the place to be" until the newness wore off. I just don't know if it's got the staying power to work here long term, I realize people will disagree and want it, but I'm just being honest about what I've seen here my whole life in reataurants and what BR looks for in dining out.

I've been twice. Tried a lot of the menu sharing. I've really enjoyed it. Mrs Afro could care less if we ever go back.
