wife and i stayed at the southern last night and went to bon sake for the first time, i'm not sure why we haven't been before other than i tend to get bored with sushi. it just isn't what i crave when dining out

its a really cool space with a nice bar and extensive outdoor seating. service was friendly and fun, and the food was shockingly good.

we had fried rangoons, beef tataki, blue crab temaki, scallapeno maki and the wolverine maki. several pours of cold kirin. $140 plus tip. we didnt even scratch the surface of the huge menu

my kind of place...bold interesting flavors, lively atmosphere and plenty of menu options. 12/10 on everything we will be adding this to the rotation. the place was packed BTW on a monday night when most of the est of town was closed.

RIP OG Sticky Rice in that location.

I've been hearing good things though. Did the rangoon have actual crab in it?

it was probably the most "whatever" thing we ate, but it was very good. i wanted something crispy and it filled the bill. theres tons of other stuff i want to try next

It is a cool place. We go there for lunch often and the food is good, with the caveat that the portions are small and very expensive. Lots of flavor fusion as you pointed out. They also use a ton of sauces which is not really my thing on sushi, but I get why people like it. I just like fish.

My opinion; if you want to go to a sushi restaurant for the vibe, go to Bon Sake. If you want to go to a sushi restaurant for the sushi, go to Aki.
